Investigation after motorist hits multiple vehicles on Chorley Old Road Bolton

A MOTORIST was left needing hospital treatment after a hit-and-run driver smashed into the side of her vehicle before crashing into other cars.

Anna Whitehead said she was in fear for her life and that of her brother, who was a passenger, when she saw a Ford Fiesta come careering towards her Vauxhall Corsa as she was driving home during the evening rush hour.

Despite taking evasive action to avoid the oncoming car, her vehicle was badly damaged on the driver’s side.

The smash happened just before 6pm on Monday evening.

Anna, aged 21, was taken to hospital, and her Corsa has been written-off.

She said that after hitting her vehicle, the car went on to crash into others cars and forced other motorists to take evasive action.

Police have now launched an investigation into the collision.

Miss Whitehead said: “I was driving just past the shops on Chorley Old Road on the way back from work.

“The next thing I remember a car had come onto my side of the road.

“It was going fast, weaving in and out of traffic.

“I just managed to swerve.

“My side of the car has taken the impact.

“It could definitely have been fatal.

“The police were saying I had done really well to get out of the way.”

She added: “I am just in shock, it just happened so fast.

“I am annoyed more than anything at the thought they are putting other people at risk.”

The 21-year-old, who works in admin for a design company, was taken to hospital and released early the following day.

She said: “I am just bruised.

“My stomach took a lot of the impact, other than that I am fine.”

But Anna thinks she will struggle to drive again.

She said: “I have been told by a friend who is a driving instructor to get straight back out.”

Anna added: “It is more that I want them stopped. What could they do next?

“The next person might not be as lucky as I was.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 5.40pm yesterday to Chorley Old Road, Bolton to a report of a fail to stop collision.

“Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.”
