How did you get your big break?
Well, it depends which break you think is big. Cracking a cadetship on my local newspaper was big.
Learning the television trade in the late 70s and early 80s when no one was looking â¦was big.
Landing a seat next to Steve Liebmann on Today was big. 60 Minutes was very big. And now Under
Investigation ⦠well, thatâs enormous!
How did I do it? No idea.
What are daily news media habits?
I turn on the tele at the end of my bed when I wake up ⦠and for an hour or so before I go to sleep. Actually, I donât think the TV is ever turned off. I read newspapers while the TV is on. I used to have a TV in my car (it was part of the dash), but Iâm not sure thatâs a good idea. I do read newspapers and listen to the radio.
Which living person do you most admire?
Anyone and everyone who experiences trauma and survives. Mostly theyâre people with extraordinary strength and courage. Life is hard enough.
Your guilty streaming pleasure?
Killing Eve.
Which phrase do you overuse?
My family tells me itâs unprintable.
What did you want to do when you grew up?
I thought being an Avon lady was pretty good. (Those under 60 may have to look that up!). But then I was introduced to Tupperware ⦠and all those parties. (See above).
What was your first job?
Milking cows.
Facebook or Instagram?
Instagram. But really, Iâm quite useless with it all.
Recommend a podcast...
Not my strong suit. Iâm listening to podcasts mostly for research.
Whatâs one vice you wish you could give up?
Every time I eat a jelly snake, I swear it will be my last. And it is, until the next time.
The song thatâs always on high rotation?
Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones.
What are you reading?
Geoffrey Robertsonâs Rather His Own Man. Iâve only had to look up one word so far!
Favourite movie of the past decade?
Green Book.
Top of your sporting bucket list?
Cricket, tennis and two flies climbing a wall.
Whatâs the best piece of advice youâve ever received?
Youâre only as good as your last story.
What are the three things you couldnât live without?
Sunshine, ugg boots and a sea breeze.
